Tesla’s referral program is a great way to spread the word about their eco-friendly innovative company, score some complementary fast-charging on the Tesla Supercharger network, and score a sweet reward.
Tesla doesn’t rely on traditional forms of advertising and marketing to sell their cars like major TV networks, billboards or newspapers as Ford and Toyota, etc. They rely mostly on word of mouth from existing owners, bloggers (like me!), YouTube Influencers, and journalists to bring in new customers. The referral program is another tool that helps them reach new customers.
Unfortunately, this isn’t a very straightforward program and the terms seem to be updated regularly. Tesla wants you to have a referral code, so why wouldn’t you share this opportunity with your followers on social media?
You don’t need to wait for a Tesla referral code, because you can get one today with the links below or use (graydon36263). 🙂

Here’s Why the Tesla Referral Program Is So Great.
Tesla was founded in 2003. Though the company has been making and selling their purely electric cars since 2008, and delivered almost 500,000 cars this last year alone (2020), even though the company has seen a huge increase in profits, it spends very little on marketing and advertising.
In addition to the Supercharging bonus, owners who refer Tesla sales get entered into drawings to win a Founders Series Tesla Model Y or a Founder Series Tesla Roadster.
Tesla likes to let its customers do the marketing for them and that’s why their referral program has been so effective. For this reason, the it’s referral program has been highly successful in winning new customers for the brand.
What is the Tesla Referral Program?
When it comes to safety, Tesla wins hands down. When you sign up for the referral program and purchase a new car from them, both parties can get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging!
Owners get prizes and free access to the Supercharger network. Tesla put in place program for owners to refer new customers for Model S and Model X. Tesla sells vehicles and stationary battery pack for home, commercial and utility-scale projects. It sells vehicles under its ‘Tesla Motors’ division and ‘Tesla Energy’ division. Tesla also sells stationary battery packs and vehicles for commercial and utility scale projects.
In 2012, Tesla launched its referral program. It was the first time that any automaker had a program like this in place to reward owners for bringing customers into their service network. The goal was to use word of mouth advertising and increase sales numbers through positive reviews from family, friends or colleagues. The idea is to get potential customers to hear first hand, from the actual customer who owns and drives the vehicle, about what they like or dislike.
Clean energy is the future. You can help others make a difference by referring them to Tesla Solar and earn a reward in return! The first person you refer will earn $100 after their solar system or roof installation goes live, while also reducing dependence on our grid for power and producing clean solar energy that’s good for Earth’s environment. For every referral made, they’ll give you an additional $400 award with your one Powerwall included at 10 referrals of course!
How to Get a Tesla Referral Code
As a fellow Tesla owner, here’s a personal referral code that gives you a bonus on your purchase. Let’s both save some cash and help the environment!
Graydon’s referral code gives you 1,000 free Supercharger miles or $100 solar award.
- You’re earning $500 for every referral for a new solar roof, and your family and friends will also save money on their electricity bills! Help them go solar and you’ll earn rewards too.
- Sign up for a Tesla referral and you and anyone you refer will get 1,000 miles of free Supercharging with the purchase of a new Tesla car. Plus, Tesla is one of the safest cars on the road.

Please note that referrals cannot be added after an order is placed or at time of delivery.
Beginning in September 2019, Tesla has added solar panels to its list of eligible purchases, and the Tesla solar roof in April 2020. So if you buy a Tesla solar power system via a referral link, you can receive a $100 cash reward once the solar panels are installed.
Why Should I Care About Free Supercharge?
Tesla has an infrastructure of over 2,000 Supercharging stations and nearly 25,000 units across the United States and Canada. The network of charging stations are strategically located along interstate highways for cross-country travel. There is a large concentration of Superchargers in California and along the Northeast Corridor between Washington D.C. and Boston where there are large populations of people. The idea is that Tesla owners can recharge their electric cars at any point along long distance travel. Tesla estimates that this cost comes to $90 to drive 1,500 miles versus $195 when getting 21 MPG at $2.73 per gallon of gasoline. Tesla even has a handy trip planner to make sure your car never runs out of power.
Where Is My Tesla Referral Code?
Don’t know where to find your Tesla Referral Code? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
Once you purchase a Tesla vehicle, you can refer your friends and family to buy their own. It’s how Tesla says thank you for being such an important part of the community.
If you haven’t received a referral code yet, check your Tesla app. If you still don’t see it, feel free to email the company at email@example.com.
Your unique referral link appears directly in the Tesla app in the “Loot Box”.
Sharing your Tesla referral code is painless and quick. Your code is displayed in your profile page and easily shared with your preferred social media or email platform.
It’s easy to check your Tesla referrals on the web. Simply log into your account and visit the “My Tesla” page, which can be found at tesla.com/my-tesla.
It will consist of your first name followed by a series of numbers.
For example, my referral code is: graydon36263.
If you are asking yourself “Can I refer a sale to myself?” the answer is YES. You can indeed earn a Tesla Bonus by referring a sale to yourself.
You already own a Tesla? That’s awesome! The best part is that you can receive more free Supercharger sessions on your second or third purchase, etc.
I have read many reports of owners upgrading from a Model 3 to a Model 3 Performance or Tesla Model 3 to a Tesla Model Y Performance using their own referral link, etc. Therefore, you should be able to use your own referral link and be eligible for the additional referral bonuses.
Regardless of the referral source, owners who order a new Tesla receive the same incentive.
Limited time offers – You may see other offers such as unlimited Supercharging, or 2,000/5,000 miles of credit – or even $1,000 off the purchase of a Model S or X, you are seeing old referral offers which are no longer valid.
I try my best to keep information on this blog post up to date to match the actual offerings by Tesla. 🙂
How You Can Promote
Your Referral Code
You must be at least 18 to be eligible for benefits and the customer is responsible for all taxes and local requirements and fees. Due to the Ohio and Virginia state law, residents of those states are not eligible to win any referral awards.
The best way to think about the Referral Program is that it is a great way to spread the word about Tesla and get rewarded for doing so! They want to reward people for being honest and helping Tesla, so it is important to do so in good faith.
Acceptable ways of sharing your code:
- YouTube channels
- Informational & fan websites (like this website)
- Social media sharing
These are some ways you can’t promote your referral code or referral link.
- Anything misleading or annoying
- Social media bios
- Paying or offering incentives for use of your link
- Referral code aggregation, including posting to deal and coupon sites
To be clear, commercializing, advertising, publishing, mass distributing, selling, or paying for use of referral links is not appropriate, and they will not honor such links. They cannot cover every nefarious scenario, nor attempt to,
How to Add Referral Code
Typically referral codes must be used prior to purchase and cannot be added retrospectively. Since existing reservations of the S/3/X/Y models have obviously already been made, it was believed that the referral code cannot be added to these orders.
If you want to avoid the hassle of contacting your sales representative and trying to update your Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X or Model Y order, the only way to do so is to cancel your order and replace it with the intended referral code. Feel free to use graydon36263 if you are in need of one. 🙂
Do this as early as possible if you want to avoid extending your delivery date, otherwise read on to see if there are alternative options so you may still take advantage of the Tesla Referral Program.
However, if you live in Canada, it might be possible to have your order updated to include a friend’s referral code.
It’s pretty simple from what I have read on Drive Tesla Canada: if you live in Canada, you should call the Tesla Vancouver store to get your referral code added to your account.
It’s unclear whether Tesla Delivery Advisors are able to add referral codes to orders, so it may be best to give them a call to see what can be done for your order. Tesla is currently in the process of changing the referral program, so it’s possible that this is just a miscommunication.
For those of you who have been trying to add a referral code to a Model Y or Model 3 order, let me know in the comments below what you’ve experienced.
United States / European Union
Reach out to Tesla reps directly and kindly ask them to add referral code (graydon36263) to your order.
Sent an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with your Tesla reservation # and/or Tesla Order # and kindly request to have the referral code added to your order (be sure to add the referral code you want added).
If you’ve ordered a Model 3 in the European Union, email buildmy3EMEA@tesla.com with the word “Referral” in the subject line. Include your name and contact information, your reservation number, and the referral code you’d like to use. Make sure you include RN in the reservation number.
Reach out to Tesla at (888) 518-3752 and politely request Customer Service add your Referral Code to your order.
You could visit a Tesla location and warmly ask a representative to do it for you, you could add your referral code and benefit from a few thousand free Supercharger miles.
Don’t wait too long to enter your referral code (graydon36263) or you might not be able to.
It is not clear how many people will be able to get the Referral Code added at the time of delivery, but those who try early are more likely to succeed.
Can I Use a Referral Code to Purchase a Tesla Model Y?
The Tesla Referral Program is now available for the Model Y. You can earn 1,000 free Supercharging miles by referring a sale of the Model Y through your referral code and the buyer will get the same 1,000 free Supercharger miles in return.
Tesla has decided to include Model Y in qualified vehicle for the referral program. With the Model Y included, the free Supercharger miles will be credited to owner’s account and there is a chance to win a Model Y or next-gen Roadster.
Can I Use a Referral Code
to Reserve a Roadster?
Currently, a referral code can be used to order a Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X or Tesla Solar Panel Systems.
As other models enter mass production, I expect the referral program to add these new cars to the referral program.
You cannot receive a Tesla referral bonus when you order a Roadster.
Can I Use a Referral Code
to Reserve a Cybertruck?
Presently, a referral code can only be used to order the follow products: Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, Solar Roof or Solar Panel.
As Tesla begins producing these newer models in mass, I expect the referral program to add these new cars into the campaign.
You can’t get a Tesla referral bonus if you order a Cybertruck.
How Do I Use a Supercharger?
Every Tesla made — except the original Tesla Roadster — is capable of using the Tesla Supercharger network. The network of high-speed EV chargers are currently designed for exclusive use by Tesla cars. Finding a Supercharging station is easy, as their locations are built into every Tesla car’s on-board navigation.
Each month, Tesla continues to add more Supercharger stations. Tesla also improved charging speeds by upgrading the chargers themselves.
If you want to find one nearby, just press the right button on your steering wheel and say, “Navigate to Supercharger” This will present you with a list of the closest Superchargers.
Tesla’s GPS shows you a map of the Superchargers network, and how many stalls are available at each. You can find real-time information about the network’s status. The car will also alert you when it’s time to stop charging to avoid paying an idle fee.
Within the turn-by-turn route is information on how much charge you will have if you return back to where you are, which is helpful for when needing to know if you can make it back for a round-trip.
It is a tool for simpler driving. Tesla Supercharger stations are strategically located to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.
Using a Tesla Supercharger is simple. Plug in, charge up, and drive. The onboard software gives you an estimated time until charge competition and displays the charging rate.
Is the Tesla Referral Program Available Worldwide?
While Tesla’s referral program is global in scope, there are legal restrictions in various regions that further limit the program.
Residents of Wisconsin are eligible for benefits. However, participants from Ohio and Virginia may not be eligible to receive incentives for referring friends and family, due to local laws.
The benefits differ depending on the country you reside. In Europe, 1,500 km of free charging is offered, compared with the 1,000 mile range in the United States.
For questions regarding the referral program, please email email@example.com.
What Are the Secret Levels of the Referral Program?
Tesla’s earlier referral program had a secret bonus level. Referrals are very important in the world of business, and Tesla is an innovative company that understands this.
Founders Series Tesla Roadster
Referrers of Tesla products had the opportunity to earn a 2% discount towards the purchase of the upcoming new version of the Tesla Roadster Founders Series.
This is a great incentive because the Roadster will sell for $250,000.
You’ve unlocked the first secret level. Share your referral code to give 5 more of your friends free unlimited Supercharging and $1,000 off a new Model S or Model X. Once all 5 take delivery, we’ll give you the ability to purchase Founder’s Series next gen Roadster at a 10% discount off the base price. Unlock new levels with every 5 referrals for an additional 2% off per referral and amazing adventures that money can’t buy. Get to 100% for a free Founder’s Series next gen Roadster. Further details on our next gen Roaster will be announced at a future date.Quote from Tesla App
- 10 Referrals
- $25,000 OFF
- 55 Referrals
- $250,000 OFF
If you could have gotten 55 referrals for the Founders Series Roadster, you can get a free car!
Tesla is giving away more than 80 new Roadsters for free, which might have brought the transfer program to a standstill, but they’re still giving away new prices for referrals and that’s good news.
Founders Series Powerwall 2
Tesla gave away limited edition red Founders Series Powerwall 2.0’s for those who make 7 or more qualifying referrals, hand signed by Elon Musk, JB Straubel, and Franz von Holzhausen. These limited edition Powerwalls are not available to the general public.
Tesla also had some other opportunities while it had its secret level tier of the referral program.
- The boring company offers the chance to drive an electric tunnel boring machine at their Hawthorne location. It’s a unique opportunity to see how it’s done in a real-world scenario.
- Come see the launch of Falcon Heavy, the world’s most powerful rocket, in Capeperia, Florida.
- Tesla is hosting a race to test the Tesla Semi around a test track. You’ll be racing a giant electric semi truck, but be warned: there’s no slowing down.
- Make a time capsule and launch it into deep space orbit for millions of years. It will be the best day of your life!
According to Tesla representatives, the current referral program does not contain any secret levels, so there are officially no more secret bonuses.
Will keep you up to date with every update!

Tesla is planning to revamp its referral program. Referral codes will soon be built into the Tesla app to help buyers complete purchases. Referred owners can now earn incentives of 1,000 free miles of supercharging. The company is reportedly planning to make a major rev rev revamp of the system due to the costs it incurred. A test drive may be required in order to complete the referral process, but some buyers in some markets have no local Tesla stores. It is not clear if this portion of the referral program will remain after the changes are made. The firm has reportedly reported that free supercharging has cost Tesla about $23,000,000 so far this year.
You Should Really Read the Fine Print for Tesla’s Referral Program
Tesla allows customers to buy their cars by referring them to a customer. The fine print on the Tesla is a little more subtle, but it’s hard to figure out in the fine print. Owners should also be careful to keep in mind that they may want to earn free Tesla with referral programmer’s referred programme. A free Tesla car can no longer be bought by the company because of changes to the program.
The automaker offers prizes and free access to the Supercharger network when purchases made by the referral program are approved. Tesla is now limiting its free charging offer as well as how many referrals an owner can make.
Referral fraud is apparently growing for Tesla. This has been going on for some time. The firm’s referral program is effective when its use by the buyers and sellers, but there are those who try to take advantage of it. Some owners have reportedly made false referrals in order to give themselves rewards that they would otherwise not receive if genuine referrals were
Tesla has implemented several changes to its referral program in an effort to curtail fraud. Tesla owners are now limited to earning a maximum of 1,000 miles of free supercharging per purchase. Owners will receive a discount for the service once they reach the limit on their car’s refer-a-friend credit programme. The company is also reducing the incentives given to referrers in an effort to curb fraud.
Tesla is rumored to have given away at least $23 million in free supercharging this year (Q1 2021), but the reality of Tesla’s aggressive referral program is that it offers enough credits for drivers to drive for a significant amount of time.
“1000 miles converts to approximately 400kWh of free Supercharging credits“
In the United States, 1000 miles convert into 400 kWh worth of free Supercharging credits if you use the national average of $.28 per kWh. So, we end up at about $224 as both you and the buyer benefit from this perk. So, $224 isn’t too crazy but it can add up quickly when a popular person refers large amounts of their fanbase.
So this would mean we’re at approximately 224 bucks but it could go higher depending if someone tries to exploit something or refer all of their fans over quickly so keep your eyes peeled for scams like these when buying from people who have been playing games too much already.
“23M worth of credits are going to waste“
I’ve looked at a number of YouTubers creating Tesla-related content who actually have a lot of free Supercharger miles but are unable to burn all their credits, especially because some have a million miles (1000 referrals) that expire within 6 months. So, I believe some of these $23M worth of credits are going to waste.
Tesla could remove its online referral links from its cars, possible due to abuse of the program as a reason for its decision. It is unknown when this change might occur, but I hope they keep parts of the program. Maybe they limit the total number of credits you can hoard, slow down redemption rate, or grant a 50% discount on 1000 free Supercharger miles?
After reading a few different articles on this topic, it seems that Tesla might be opting to offer its referral program only offline or in person in the future. I suspect that it may require the use of a QR code and GPS to ensure that participants are close to each other.
If you need a Tesla referral link today I recommend you use the links below or use (graydon36263). 🙂
