Tesla's Model Y Price Shakeup: Performance AWD for Less Than Long Range?

Tesla is making some bold pricing moves with the Model Y, blurring the lines between trim levels. Right now, the Model Y Performance AWD is listed at $37,300, with an estimated $574/month financing—putting it cheaper than the Model Y Long Range AWD at $38,060 ($586/month financing).
Tesla Model Y Price Drops – Quick Breakdown
- Model Y Performance AWD – $36,270
Range: 277 mi (EPA est.) - Model Y Long Range AWD – $38,390
Range: 280 mi (est.) - Model Y Long Range RWD – $37,620
Range: 337 mi (EPA)
Tesla Model 3 Price Drops – Quick Breakdown
- Model 3 Long Range RWD – $34,990
Range: 363 mi (EPA est.)
What’s interesting is that the Model Y Long Range RWD was briefly priced at $34,990, similar to the Model 3 Long Range RWD, but that is no longer the case, making the decision between sedan vs. SUV clearer.
Meanwhile, the AWD Model Y Performance and Long Range trims are nearly the same price, despite a 34-mile range difference.
Then there's the Model 3 Long Range AWD, priced at $38,890 ($605/month financing) with 346 miles of range—but that’s for a demo vehicle with 639 miles already on it.
With the Performance AWD being one of the lowest-priced options in Tesla’s lineup, it’s hard to ignore. But is the range drop a dealbreaker?
This is definitely happening because the Model Y refresh is incoming very soon. Tesla is likely clearing out inventory to make way for the updated version. If you’re in the market, this could be a great time to snag a deal before the new models arrive!
