How to Recover Your Tesla Slacker Account on Model 3 & Model Y

When I removed the Slacker login data for the Model 3, I got into trouble because I wanted to see if I could create my own account, which I can customize further. I quickly realized that I could not log in to Slacker in the infotainment center because the app does not support free accounts.

In this article, I discuss how to recover your Tesla Slacker account for Model 3 & Model Y.

I phoned Tesla a couple of times and was advised to restart the infotainment center by holding both steering wheel buttons down. This did nothing to solve the problem. Tesla account login was missing because I did not pay for Tesla’s Premium Connectivity.

It worked up to that point without the add-on; however, it required the car to be connected to Wi-Fi, which was fine. I just used the $25 Visible unlimited hotspot on the Pixel 3 XL. 🙂

How to Restore Your Tesla Slacker Account

Here is what I did to restore the default slacker account:

  1. Log into your Tesla Account.
  2. Click on the MANAGE button underneath your car / VIN.
  3. Click on the Details” text underneath your car / VIN.
  4. Click on the “Renew” text next to Premium Connectivity.
  5. Lastly, By clicking “RENEW” button, you agree to renew Premium Connectivity and pay $10.54 automatically each month until you cancel.

It takes up to 4 hours for premium connectivity in the car to be activated, and Slacker can behave strangely for a day or two, which I experienced in my situation. Listen to music or tap “Use Tesla account” when the prompt appears.

I renewed Premium Connectivity at about 12:39 and it was activated in the car at 16:07 .It took around 3 hours to complete.

It took a day or two before the “log in to Tesla account button” appeared again on the Slacker Account login screen, but that solved my problem.

I now once again can listen to all my playlists. These were not lost from being logged out for a week or so.

Now time will tell, but if you cancel Premium Connectivity, Slacker should continue working over WiFI. 🙂 Don’t remove the Tesla account because you won’t be able to re-add it unless you re-activate this service.

January 13, 2021 Update: I found out that I can still play Slacker Radio while I have Wi-Fi.

I wanted to write this article to help everyone else who was faced without their Slacker Radio in Model 3 or Model Y. I hope this information will be helpful for you.
