I shared my aerial & landscape photography with a number of art shows last year around South Central Wisconsin and I wanted to share the most common drone questions I frequently got asked!

The Phantom 4 Pro is no longer in production, but you can still find it on Amazon.

How long can you fly your drone?

Top Recommendation: DJI Mavic 2 Pro

The Mavic 2 has a maximum flight time of 31 minutes with no wind and at a consistent 15.5 mph (25 km/h) speed for both the Pro and Zoom version.

The Phantom 4 Pro has a maximum flight time of 30 minutes with no wind and at a consisent 15.5 mph (25km/h) speed.

How high can you fly a drone?

If you are flying a drone in the United States you are legally allowed to fly up to 400 feet or 121.92 Meters, while in Euro Union, that limit is raised to 500 feet or 152.4 Meters. In the United States, you are allowed to fly 400 feet above a structure or building if you're capturing it however your flight app may not allow you due to distance from the nearest airport.

Standard regulations mention that your drone must remain clear of any surrounding obstacles; trees and buildings fall into this category.

In terms of the technical limitations of flying a drone at high altitudes, it has been shown on YouTube before that they are capable of flying extremely altitudes but this is very dangerous.

The Phantom 4 Pro has a rated range of 4.3 mi (7 km) with complete line of fight of the aircraft and free of interference.

The Mavic Mini can be flown up to 2.5 miles or 4 km away from the pilot. This is quite impressive for such a small and light FlyCam as they call it.

It it is recommended that you always have line of sight of your drone at all times or hire a visual observor (VO) for your flight. This optional crew member would monitor the flight mission and act as a second set of eyes. To learn more about VO and other roles, it's worth checking out the drone course: Professional Drone Training Course by ABJ DRONE ACADEMY. They can also help you ace your Part 107 exam so you can start your own drone business!

Also note any obstacles can reduce your signal or other WiFI connections can interfer with the signal between your UAV and remote controller.

Mavic 2 – Both Pro & Zoom can reach speeds up to 44.7 mph OR (72 km/h).
