Thoughts on Getaway to Iceland:

The cost of housing in and around Iceland is about $150 a night on AirBnB. Rather than staying in Reykjavik, I suggest going south to the black sand beaches and setting up camp there. If you rent a car and drive yourself, all of the above are free or almost free.

For a short trip, I suggest:

– Secret Lagoon. Don't bother with the Blue Lagoon.
– Golden Circle
– Reykjadalur Valley Hike to natural hot springs
– Black Sand Beaches near Vik

If I were traveling with a partner, I would not choose this option. Iceland’s roads are fantastic, especially to the main sights, and car rentals are affordable during the off-season. If you drive to the main locations (golden circle, ring road) in winter, you do not need a 4×4. Please feel free to comment below if you have any questions.
